RIC3, the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, and neuroinflammation

•Expression of RIC3 is dynamically regulated following immune activation.•Similar expression dynamics suggest similar function for RIC3 and α7 nAChR.•RIC3 is required for the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway.•RIC3 and α7 nAChR expression increases in some MS patients.•Expression of RIC3 and of the α7 nAChR encoding gene is correlated in MS patients.
