Abstract
•Octenylsuccinic anhydride modified chitosan (OSA-CS) nanoparticles were prepared.•OSA-modified CS showed good solubility at physiological pH.•OSA-CS nanoparticles exhibited pH-responsive drug release in acidic environments.•Nanoparticles displayed excellent biocompatibility and high cellular uptake in vitro.•Drug-load NPs improved anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of the system.
