摘要
Background: Soft tissue sarcoma comprise 1% of all solid tumours; 15-20% of them arise in the retroperitoneum. Surgery is the only potentially curative treatment. Adequate evaluation and selection of procedure are important, so localization, histologic type, tumour biology, functional status and surgical risk should be taken into account. The main goal is to achieve a complete resection defined as R0/R1, with no macroscopic residual disease. This goal becomes more achievable with wider resections, but this implies more aggressive surgery, multivisceral resections and more complex procedures, morbidity is often mentioned as an argument against this approach. In selected histologic types (like well-differentiated LPS) this approach is better in terms of recurrence and OS.
