•Pr-MIP-TMCs were facilely prepared by one-pot solvothermal method to degrade DNBP.•Pr-MIP-TMCs exhibited higher selectivity to target pollutant DNBP than phenol.•Pr-MIP-TMCs showed superior preferential photodegradation performance to MIP-TMCs.•Higher performance of Pr-MIP-TMCs resulted from Pr doping and molecular imprinting.
