Abstract
Metasurface inspired design as a valid solution for elevating the broadband performance of a cavity antenna operating at L and S bands is presented, by a comparison of antenna prototype without and with metasurface modulation. Two types of metasurface configurations labelled as A and B are introduced and embedded in a cavity aperture, which consists of several metallic stripes similar to the radiation dipole patches of antenna. The operation bandwidth for return loss less than-10 dB has been extended from 857 MHz for antenna prototype to 1090 and 1167 MHz after being modified with metasurfaces A and B, respectively. Simultaneously, the far field radiation patterns nearly keep the same, especially in the dominant radiation direction.
