Superpixels Extracted via Region Fusion with Boundary Constraint

•Accurate superpixels can be obtained by region fusion with boundary constraint.•The edge closing is performed based on straight lines.•Belief propagation and fusion of fragmentary regions are conducted alternatingly.•Both true edges and the integrity of superpixels are preserved after region fusion.•A good trade-off between compact shape and boundary adherence is achieved.
