•Warming, N addition, warming plus nitrogen addition decreased root exudation rates.•There was negative interactive effects of warming and N addition on exudation rate.•Higher root exudation during dry period may be an important physiological adjustment.•The result provides insights into the response of belowground C dynamics to global change.
