Pollen and lipid analysis of coprolites from Yuhuicun and Houtieying, China: Implications for human habitats and diets

•Coprolites from the Chinese Neolithic site of Yuhuicun and Houtieying were analysed.•Steroid compounds confirm the origins from humans and dogs.•Fatty alcohols include three sources: microorganisms, animal fats and plant waxes.•High frequencies of Quercus pollen indicate seasonal hunting activities.•The presence of milliacin points to the consumption of millets.
