摘要
The aim of our study is to assess impact of clinical pharmacist intervention on prescribing pattern and the health-related quality of life in COPD patients. A prospective interventional study was conducted in respiratory wards of tertiary care hospital, Bengaluru. 96 subjects were recruited in the study based on inclusion criteria. The prescription pattern was assessed according to the GOLD guidelines. The knowledge of the patients regarding the disease has been assessed through BCKQ. Adherence to the treatment was assessed through MGL scale. The health-related quality of life was assessed through SF-36. Patients were educated regarding requirement of medication adherence and disease related quality of life. Aforementioned scales are re-administered after 3-months span and the baseline and follow-up scores were compared, evaluated and measured with appropriate statistics. Salbutamol and Ipratropium bromide were prescribed in 66.30% of the sample followed by Budesonide in 65.30% of the 96 subjects. Participants in the high adherence category are 12.5% in the pre-counselling and 56.25% post-counselling. Highest correlation is observed between pain and adherence (0.354). Descriptive statistics and the Pearson’s correlation were applied to assess the correlation and the statistical significance respectively. Significance was observed between medication adherence and HRQL proving the statistical significance of the data. The SF-36 showed greater deterioration in the areas of physical functioning, general health, and vitality, although no significant differences were found in other areas. Awareness regarding the disease, knowledge and medication adherence plays a key role in HRQL in COPD patient. Statistically, significant improvement was observed in physical, general and social and emotional parameters of HRQL. This study signifies the key role of the clinical pharmacist in the clinical setting. Keywords: COPD, Prescription Pattern, HRQL, Medication Adherence.
