•The color on cementitious mixtures is a requirement of architectural concrete.•Reducing the measurements number promotes lower costs and it depends on each color.•The color homogeneity and color similarity on cementitious mixtures were studied.•The scale of perception indicating slight visible changes is a ΔE*76 < 3.0.•Ten measurements on 6400 mm2 can be enough for design color in cementitious mixtures
