Abstract
Because it can enhance the performances of the fixed speed-applications as pumps, fans or compressors, the research on the line-start motor has increased these recent years. It has been adapted to large scaled topologies but not yet to the flux modulation motors, as the Vernier motor. Due to the multiharmonics working magnetic fields, a classical squirrel cage can hardly synchronize and brings a lot of losses at steady-state. This paper deals with the starting operation of a flux modulation motor as the Vernier motor by replacing the classical squirrel cage by a new cage design. This new cage targets a specific poles pairs field and can suppress the parasitic steady-state currents, its main working principles are explained.
