Fault-Tolerant Control of Six-Phase Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Machine Drives Under Open-Phase Faults

Six phase permanent magnet machines have gained much popularity due to their various of advantages. However, a fault in machine or inverter will lead to torque oscillations and poor performance. In this paper, only open circuit fault is considered and the reason for torque oscillations is analysed. Besides, a control strategy is proposed to reduce torque ripples. The main idea of the propose control strategy is to preserve the values of fundamental magnetic motive force under open-phase fault the same as in healthy case. Moreover, in order to take full use of inverter and motor, the amplitude of remaining healthy phase current should keep equal to each other. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified on the platform of Matlab/Simulink.
