Measurement of 1α hydroxycorticosterone in the Japanese banded houndshark, Triakis scyllium, following exposure to a series of stressors.

•Circulating corticosteroids were measured in the cannulated, conscious free-swimming houndshark.•1α-OH-B was specifically measured from the HPLC-separated plasma.•Surgery and handling/air-exposure stress transiently increased circulating 1α-OH-B levels.•The levels of 1α-OH-B were consistently 100-fold greater than corticosterone.
