Abstract
Angelicase Pubescentis Radix (APR) has been used in the practices of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with anti-rheumatoid arthritis (RA) effects called "wind-dampness-dispelling and cold dispersing". In TCM prescriptions and patient medicines, APR has been widely adopted against RA. Till now, the anti-rheumatoid mechanisms are still obscure. In this study, bioactive compounds and targeted proteins based on experiment evidences were collected. Then, bioinformatics analysis towards RA was deployed. As a result, five RA associated biological processes were enriched with proteins targeted/regulated by APR e.g. ossification, osteoclast differentiation, positive regulation of lymph activation and regulation of T and B cell. The result can also be validated with bioinformatics tools and RA microarray data. In short, the anti-RA effect of APR recognized in TCM may associated with regulations on bone formation and inflammations.
