Affective temperaments and eating psychopathology in anorexia nervosa: Which role for anxious and depressive traits?

•Anorexia nervosa (AN) is frequently comorbid with affective and anxiety disorders.•Little attention has been paid so far to affective temperaments in AN.•An association between affective temperaments and eating psychopathology emerged.•After statistical control, only the anxious temperament remained significant.•The anxious temperament could modulate the severity of AN symptoms.
