•The study aim was to assess the risk for in-hospital death after confirmed ICH.•Patients with ICH were on antiplatelets, VKAs, DOACs or no antithrombotic agents.•In-hospital death is associated with GCS, age, previous stroke and hematoma volume.•Preceding treatment with antithrombotic is associated with the severity of ICH.
