Validation of hindi version of Edinburgh postnatal depression scale as a screening tool for antenatal depression.

•No translated and validated Hindi version of EPDS tool with antenatal population available in India.•The prevalence of antenatal depression was found to be 17%.•We found the sensitivity, specificity, of the Hindi version of the EPDS was 65.38, 79.73% respectively at an optimal threshold of 9/10.•Antenatal depression screening should be included as an essential component of routine antenatal care to aid early identification and treatment of depression.
