•Stereotaxic infusion of 6-OH-BDE-47 into rat brain induced motor defects.•6-OH-BDE-47 promoted α-synuclein aggregation, a Parkinson’s disease (PD) marker.•6-OH-BDE-47 inhibited protein degradation pathways of ubiquitination and autophagy.•The occurrence of 6-OH-BDE-47 in brain tissue is a risk for developing PD.
