Diabetes Alert Dogs: objective behaviours shown during periods of owner glucose fluctuation and stability

•Diabetes Alert Dogs show differences in behaviour when their owner’s glucose levels fluctuate.•Dogs elicit trained and non-trained behaviours when their owner transitions to hypo- or hyperglycaemia.•Variation in the occurrence of attention-seeking behaviours was shown by all dogs.•Despite undergoing the same training, dogs showed individual profiles of behaviour change.
