•Multispectral and SAR data can be used to estimate eucalyptus aboveground biomass.•Artificial neural networks is better suited to model biomass from multivariate data.•Optical-radar image combination have improved biomass estimates.•The RMSE% and R2 were 2.87 and 0.95 and an error dispersion ranging from −8% to 4%.
