Silicon kinoform cylindrical lens with low surface roughness for high-power terahertz radiation

•High roughness of silicon surface causes absorption/scattering of THz radiation.•Roughness of silicon surface ablated by 1 ps laser pulses can be decreased to 1 μm.•Laser processing of silicon ensures sufficient relief precision for THz optics.
