•Innovative prediction of the transfer length of prestressing strands is achieved using Artificial Neural Network (ANN)•The ANN uniquely allows for investigating the effect of many key parameters classified into various categories•A simplified Analytical model is developed considering the most significant parameters based on the ANN results and sensitivity analysis•Comparisons are made with the AASHTO and ACI codes models as well as with some reputable models in literature
