Constructing multilayered membranes with layer-by-layer self-assembly technique based on graphene oxide for anhydrous proton exchange membranes

•Multicomponent membranes were prepared with the layer by layer self-assembly technique.•(PU/GO/PDDA/GO)200 membranes exhibit the methanol permeability of (3.66–12.5) × 10−8 cm2/s.•Maximum proton conductivity is 1.83 × 10−1 S/cm at 150 °C under anhydrous condition.
