Abstract
The increasing use of renewable energy presents a significant challenge to the frequency stability of power grids. This paper proposes a frequency control strategy using electric vehicles (EVs) considering travelling demand. Firstly, the controllable area is introduced to determine the response capability of EV. Secondly, a state index State of Battery (SOB) is defined to describe the available response capability, which is represent by a relative position between the upper and lower limit of the controllable area. Finally, a sorting algorithm is proposed to change the EV charging power for frequency control. A simplified Great Britain model is used to investigate the effectiveness of the control strategy. Simulation results show that the proposed frequency control strategy suppressed frequency fluctuations effectively with satisfying the travelling demand.
