Abstract
•The Steinberg–Guinan–Lund model reported the largest temperatures.•Johnson–Cook and mechanical-threshold-stress models had the lowest temperatures.•The Steinberg–Guinan–Lund model reported a melt region along the jet axis.•A pressure-dependent yield stress was required to show melt in the jet.•All models agreed with photon Doppler velocimetry data.
