Dry cask radiation shielding validation and estimation of cask surface dose rate with MAVRIC during long-term storage

•The dry cask was reproduced in SCALE 6.2.3 and validated with measurement data.•The cask surface dose rate was calculated for a 300-year storage time.•The variations of radiation source dose rate contributions to the total dose were obtained.•Neutron and gamma ray dose rate percentages according to energy group were analyzed.
