Influence of HVDC Reactive Power Compensation Modeling Method on Short-Circuit Current Calculation
ieee innovative smart grid technologies asia(2019)
Abstract
With the extensive application of HVDC/UHVDC projects and the continuous growth of its transmission power, the influence of reactive power compensation on calculation results of short-circuit currents can’t be ignored. At present, standards about short-circuit current calculation in three phase ac systems have not been unified and there has been no technical standard about the modeling method for HVDC reactive power compensation in short-circuit current calculation. This paper theoretically analyzes the influence of modeling methods of HVDC reactive power compensation on the amplitude of short- circuit current periodic component and the attenuation time constant of short-circuit current DC component. Based on a practical system, the above analysis about short-circuit current calculation results is verified. Finally, suggestions for HVDC reactive power compensation modeling in short-circuit current calculation are given.
