•Direct light can be received by the system and it let oblique light pass through.•New concentrating system can be well used in building integrated photovoltaics.•This system can achieve light control and reduce indoor heat load.•The minimum transmittance is 28.2% at noon but exceeds 55% in morning and afternoon.
