Effect of uniform external magnetic-field on natural convection heat transfer in a cubical cavity filled with magnetic nano-dispersion

•The presence of external magnetic field can enhance/depreciate heat transfer in magnetic fluids.•The heat transfer enhancement/depreciation in a function of volume fraction and direction of magnetic field.•The role of chain formation in the presence of magnetic field significantly affects the rate of heat transfer.
