•Synthetic study of naturally occurred pentadecacyclic ether gymnocin-B.•Convergent synthesis of the ABCD fragment of gymnocin-B is accomplished using the oxiranyl anion strategy.•The five-membered A ring is constructed via a stereoselective radical cyclization of a neopentyl-type iodide.
