Abstract
The emergency department (ED) increasingly is used to address pediatric mental health needs and, therefore, represents a critical window of intervention. Many youth with suicidal ideation who are treated in the ED, however, do not receive the appropriate follow-up care. This Clinical Perspectives provides clinicians with an overview of the Family Intervention for Suicide Prevention (FISP), a family-and youth-centered cognitive-behavioral intervention designed to provide a behavioral assessment of risk, increase safety, and promote continuity of care after discharge from the ED.
