•Patent foramen ovale (PFO) has been reported in 25–30% of the general population.•PFO prevalence was 18.7% using a pre-procedure TEE.•Prevalence was 57.3% in patients with atrial fibrillation.•There was no statistical significance between CVA and PFO detected during PVI.
