Ultrathin endoscopy versus computed tomography in the detection of anastomotic leak in the early period after esophagectomy.

•Early diagnosis of anastomotic leak after esophagectomy is crucial to postoperative outcome.•The study prospectively compared efficiency of endoscopy and CT in identifying leak.•The sensitivity and specificity of endoscopy in leak detection is superior to that of CT.•Endoscopy is safe and efficient to evaluate anastomosis after esophagectomy.
