Abstract
Background and Aims: Atherosclerosis is inflammatory. The resolution of inflammation, including atherosclerotic inflammation, is an emerging area. Genome wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed a number of risk loci, including SMARCA4, a SWI/SNF chromatin remodeller important for gene activation. SMARCA4 is usually thought to be recruited due to transcription factor binding. We tested whether SMARCA4 could mediate a patho-mechanism relevant to atherosclerosis. We investigated its role in responses to heme relative to cyclic-AMP, a second messenger for prostacyclin and specialised pro-resolving mediators (SPMs).
