Abstract
•Biomass yield and composition of Miscanthus genotypes stabilised within 3 years.•Biomass characterised relatively low cellulose but high lignin content.•Bioethanol production reached yield 185–253 g/kg DM and efficiency 62–86%.•Bioethanol production was correlated with cellulose:lignin ratio for most genotypes.•In East-Central Europe M. × giganteus and M. sinensis are equal bioethanol feedstock.
