Abstract
A new type of tapered single capillary X-ray lens, which is manufactured by using the nesting method, is proposed to generate a small focal spot with high power density gain for micro X-ray analysis. Experimentally, it was found that the nested tapered single capillary has a good geometric shape, and the tubes nest well. The experimental results verify that the nested manufacture process is feasible. Moreover, the transmission performance of the nested tapered single capillary was measured in the laboratory. At a distance 1.5 mm from the exit of the nested tapered single capillary, a beam spot of 9.1 μm was obtained. The transmission efficiency of the nested tapered single capillary was 55%, and the gain in power density measured with or without the nested tapered single capillary was 16.
