Quick Overview Of Two Years Of Measurements With The Alphasat Q-Band Satellite Beacon

The characterization of the propagation channel at Ka-band and above still needs more experimental campaigns to collect an extensive database to support the development of new models or fine tune available propagation models in all possible geographical sites and climates. The ESA funded Technology Demonstration Payload (TDP5) at Q/V band installed on board of the satellite Alphasat offered a new opportunity to perform large-scale measurements in Europe at 39.402 GHz. The paper reports the major and preliminary results of two years of propagation measurements collected at Aveiro, Portugal. Some static and dynamic statistical aspects of the propagation channel are briefly addressed.
