•We address a optimization problem proposed by a company in charge of recyclable waste collection.•We introduce a new optimization problem of recyclable waste collection (Ee-VRP).•We provide a mathematical formulation of the problem.•We propose an heuristic optimization technique based on GRASP.•The solution approach is shown highly efficient according to eco-efficient metrics with real data.
