Abstract
•Visualization of the behaviour of gas bubbles rising in a liquid metal under the influence of a horizontal magnetic field.•The magnetic field suppresses turbulent fluctuations and causes an alignment of the vorticity in the bubble wake.•Motion of the individual bubbles becomes well synchronized and ellipsoidal bubbles tend to align their major axes along the magnetic field.
