The effect of local wind field on water circulation and dispersion of imaginary tracers in two small connected lakes

•Different wind forcing data were applied to a lake 3-D hydrodynamic model.•Tracer transport and event timing can vary with wind forcing source.•Succesful model calibtration depends on measurement locations and timing.•Flow simulations for risk assesment should be made with multiple wind forcing data.
