Center frequency shift in pipe inspection using magnetostrictive guided waves

•Center frequency shift (CFS) in magnetostrictive guided wave was studied.•A theoretical model was developed to calculate the CFS of the receiving signal.•The reasons behind CFS were determined based on the energy coupling mechanism.•Experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement.•The proposed model can aid in the design of magnetostrictive guided wave sensors.
