Abstract
•A Brinell indentation behavior was conducted on the stainless steel X2CrNi18-9.•The stainless steel was described by Johnson Cook elasto-plastic and damage model.•A pile-up phenomenon was detected at the border of the indents.•Both border and the center of the indent are the areas susceptible to damage.
