•The only profitable way to use low-scale APG flows – production of electricity.•Gas-piston engines needs fuel with high enough self-ignition delay.•The ignition delay of gas is determined by total content of C2+ alkanes.•The maximum permissible total content of C2+ alkanes in gas fuel is ~1%•Selective oxycracking allows converting 90–95% of C2+ alkanes in APG.
