Combined effect of Thymus capitatus and Cinnamomum verum essential oils with conventional drugs against Candida albicans biofilm formation and elucidation of the molecular mechanism of action

•C. verum and T. capitatus EOs and their combination with AMB were effective to inhibit Candida albicans biofilm formation.•These combinations effectively eradicate mature biofilm on medical devices.•They reduced production of secreted aspartyl protease virulence factor.•They downregulated the expression of genes involved in morphogenesis, adhesion and virulence of Candida albicns.
