A Review of On-Board Integrated Charger for Electric Vehicles and A New Solution

This paper reviews the on-board integrated chargers for electronic vehicles (EVs). The on-board integrated chargers can be classified into three types. The first type is that only converter is integrated as one part of charger. While the grid side also needs filter inductors. The second type is based on the switched reluctance motor, which can integrate both the converter and the motor windings. Based on permanent magnet motor (PM) and induction motor (IM), the last type can also integrate both the converter and the motor windings. This paper also gives a novel single-phase on-board integrated charger based on AC motor. The inverter is used as rectifier and the motor windings are used as grid-side filter inductors. The proposed technology can eliminate the second harmonic ripple, which only needs one additional capacitor and inductor. A 2kW prototype is designed to give the experimental results.
