•A black hole quencher modified graphene oxide (GO@BHQ-2) was prepared.•The GO@BHQ-2 can be used as a fluorescence super-quencher.•The GO@BHQ-2 as a dual energy acceptor can efficiently quench the fluorescence of QDs.•A selective fluorescence probe for RTB detection has been developed.
