Abstract
Aluminum alloy is widely used in industry. However, due to the low melting point and high toughness of aluminum alloy, the tool adhesive effect often occurs when cutting aluminum alloy, which may lead to tool failure. In this paper, the surface texture technology was used to solve this problem. Microgrooves with five different sizes were fabricated on the rake face of the cutting insert by femtosecond laser. Then, dry cutting experiments and simulation were conducted with different texture inserts. The results indicate that adhesion of workpiece on the rake face can be improved compared with plane cemented carbide cutting tool in a certain range size (7–15 μm). The decrease of tool–chip contact area and large shear angle have a positive effect on reducing the adhesion area and friction coefficient on the cutting experiment.
