Abstract
•TiO2 nanotube layers were sulfurized in the sulfur vapour at various temperatures.•TiS2 or TiS3 phases were identified along with TiO2 were revealed within nanotubes.•Photo-electrochemical response in UV and VIS spectral regions strongly improved.•Significantly enhanced photocatalytic decomposition rates of methylen blue.•Sulfurized TiO2 nanotube layers enhance electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
