The magnetic and electric fields are determined by two coupled integral equations that describe the magnetic field at the receiver line and the electric field within the scattering domain. These electromagnetic fields, and the corresponding dyadic Green’s functions, are updated after each iteration. In this way, we reduce a non-linear inverse scattering problem to a sequence of linear inverse scattering problems, that can be solved iteratively using the Levenberg-Marquard method, with automatic selection of the regularization parameter. The performance of the new inversion algorithm is investigated using synthetic electromagnetic data associated with geosteering in a fault model involving an anisotropic shale layer as well as an isotropic sandstone reservoir layer. The results of the numerical experiments suggest that the new method can be used to gradually reconstruct a complex geological structure while drilling, leading to a improved geosteering and increased oil recovery.Presentation Date: Tuesday, September 17, 2019Session Start Time: 1:50 PMPresentation Time: 3:05 PMLocation: Poster Station 6Presentation Type: PosterKeywords: electromagnetics, inversion, borehole geophysics, logging while drillingPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2019-3216326.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2019ISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2019 Pages: 5407 publication data© 2019 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration GeophysicistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 10 Aug 2019 CITATION INFORMATION Malte Sommer, Morten Jakobsen, and Sergey Alyaev, (2019), "Inversion of electromagnetic data while drilling using a distorted Born iterative method for anisotropic conductive media," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 1199-1203. https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2019-3216326.1 Plain-Language Summary Keywordselectromagneticsinversionborehole geophysicslogging while drillingPDF DownloadLoading ...
