Abstract

•A new model of anxiety is induced by a 5-min duration predatory sound at 60 dB.•The model is validated by anxiolytics.•The model produces anxiety-like behaviours and alters the circulating catecholamine levels and HPA axis for 7 days.•This model is easy to apply and improve the animal welfare.
